Shadows and types are fuzzy, abstract, not-quite-graspable ideas, that represent other more solid and concrete realities. The sermons listed below are essentially the early years of Engage Albany. We existed in seed form. We were young and scrappy and you sort of “just had to be there, man.” But here are bits and pieces of that available as “content.” Really, most of these messages were communicated in rented spaces as we were just starting to form as a church. Other times, we were invited to share our vision with other supporting churches, some of those are archived below as well. The cement was still wet. The messages from prior to 2019 are really just Pastor Sean speaking in previous settings before Engage Albany was a public idea. But they’re not irrelevant. Because we believe people don’t plant churches, but churches plant churches, these were some of the other bodies of believers that helped us to get established and form our own DNA as we follow Christ. The last thing worth mentioning is, in some ways, these messages feel like b-sides, and deep cuts. As such, I (Sean Nolan) spent all of five minutes making a sort of album cover that looks like an old school b-sides cover as the logo art for this. I always liked listening to those lesser known tracks by my favorite artists…maybe you will too, but be gracious as they reflect more where we come from than where we currently are as a church.
