Sean Nolan, Lead Pastor
Sean grew up in the Capital District in a non-believing household. As a teenager he found a home in the underground punk scene, playing in various bands and identifying as an atheist.
Jesus radically interrupted his life as a senior in high school when he met his wife, Hannah, while working at Taco Bell. Hannah shared the gospel with Sean and after a season of growth and maturation, he left the punk scene in order to attend seminary and commit himself to the mission of the local church.
While doing an internship at a church plant in Troy, Sean started to develop a desire to see healthy churches planted in the city of Albany where he and Hannah lived. But it would be several more years before Sean and Hannah would play any part in God’s work in the city as he accepted a pastoral position in Baltimore, MD. In 2018, God began to open the door to lead Sean and Hannah back to Albany with the intent of planting Engage Church in the city of Albany.
Sean and Hannah have been married since 2009 and have three young children. In addition to his ministry at Engage, Sean sometimes writes on Jesus and ministry at Desiring God, The Witness, and For The Church and serves on staff for Gospel-Centered Discipleship. He has also been featured in Relevant Magazine, and contributed chapters to several books.
