Making Engaged Disciples

If you’ve been a part of Engage for any amount of time, chances are you’ve attended one of our Engaging with Engage workshop lunches. One piece we cover in that seminar is an acronym with 7 Values that we want to rally around as a church. Those 7 values are:

Evangel (Good News/Gospel)-Centered: We believe that everything we do as a community should revolve around the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is the beginning, end, and means of the Christian life.

No One Turned Away: We welcome people of all backgrounds and ways of life to explore our community and hear teaching from Scripture. We strive to articulate biblical truths in a patient, winsome, and understandable way and to minimize barriers that would prevent someone from trusting Christ.

Gospel-Community: It was never God’s intention for humans to go through life alone. We value environments where meaningful relationships will blossom and flourish. We seek to do this in larger Sunday gatherings as well as smaller Engage Groups that meet in homes throughout the city.

Always Improving: We are always striving to make our 2.0 better than the last version. While God’s message never changes, our methods often do and we are committed to frequent evaluations and updates.

Radical Generosity: Because God is the most generous person in the universe, we want to follow him in generosity. It is the only thing he asks that we test him on. We want to be radically generous with our resources because we know ultimately every good gift comes from God.

Everyone Serves: There isn’t a person on the planet that doesn’t have various needs. As a young church in a diverse city, we have many needs as well. We want to be people who put our faith in action both inside and outside the “walls” of the church.

Discipleship: Jesus’s command to make disciples was one of his final sayings to his followers. We take this seriously and seek to do it with passion and intentionality.

There are two things about values (not just those above, but any values) that are worth stating:

1. Naming them means nothing; the things you truly value will be palpable realities within your community.

2. Anything a church values that does not find its root in Scripture is spurious.

As such, the following five messages will unpack these 7 values in detail as we examine the Scriptures to make sure these things are true (Acts 17:11):
